The governing body for RMTs (the CMTBC) has provided thorough guidelines for continuing Massage Therapy, and they are being updated as the situation evolves. Eden Therapy and I are following all the CMTBC and BCCDC protocols, as well as taking additional steps to ensure we are all as safe as possible.

For my own practice, I have purchased an air purifier which will be in use within the treatment room at all times to capture any airborne particles down to 0.3 microns. Pollen ranges in size from 10 to 1000 microns, and airborne droplets range most commonly between 1, 2, and 8 microns.

I will be self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors daily before coming to work, but I would like to inform my patients that I have asthma and moderate seasonal allergies. I occasionally get a dry throat from my asthma and upper airway irritation from the allergies, but with allergy and asthma medication, the air purifier, and personal protective equipment (especially masks), I hope to minimize any fear or risks this may pose.

The new changes to the clinic are summarized below. For a full list of changes, please see the resources at the bottom of this page. Please understand that these policies are evolving daily, and we are taking every measure we can to minimize risks and provide the best quality of care for all patients, and a safe environment for staff alike.

Administrative changes

  • Masks are available for patients for a small fee, but we ask that you bring your own if possible. Masks are required throughout the majority of your stay in the clinic

  • Everyone coming to the clinic is screened daily for COVID-19 symptoms and risks, including staff

  • To reduce the risk of patients encountering others in the clinic, we try to stagger appointment times

  • We ask that you wait outside until your appointment time, or within a couple minutes of it, before entering the clinic. If you are an initial patient, please ensure to fill out intake forms online, which will be emailed to new patients when they book their first appointment

  • I am using a Square reader to collect payment within the treatment room. I will also happily accept e-transfers and cash. The Square reader is sanitized between uses and cash accepted is immediately cleaned.

  • Sanitizer will be available at the door and we encourage the use upon arrival and departure, but we will ask that you use the sink in the washroom to properly wash your hands with soap and water when you come in

  • Cleaning protocols have been increased for all spaces. The cleaning of treatment rooms, while always having followed proper health protocols, has also been increased, and such protocols are posted in the treatment rooms for your review

 

 

Changes for patients

  • Updated Consent: We will have a COVID-19 specific consent form for you to fill out before your first visit back to the clinic. This will outline the steps we are taking and that you acknowledge the risks to rewards for seeking massage therapy and that you consent to proceed. Please feel comfortable discussing any concerns you have with me as they arise.

  • Mandatory self-screening: All patients must pre-screen before coming to the clinic. We will send out a pre-screening questionnaire the day before your appointment, but you may also use the BC COVID-19 self-assessment tool (https://bc.thrive.health/covid19/en). We ask that you stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 to protect other patients and staff. Please call 8-1-1 if you show symptoms and have not yet been tested.

  • Masks required: Surgical masks will be available at the door for purchase. We require a mask be worn upon entry, but this can be a mask you bring for yourself. During treatment while face down, the mask can be removed temporarily.

  • Please tell us: If you feel uncomfortable at any time while at the clinic about how we are wearing masks or gloves, please let us know immediately so we can adjust. We are all working together to reduce transmission and provide a safe environment for treatment.

  • Reduced capacity: We ask that patients come to the clinic alone unless you require a companion for treatment, such as those with disabilities or minors. In these cases, please call us to discuss how we can best accommodate you.

  • Arrival times: We ask that patients do not arrive too early for their appointment. Please enter the clinic at your start time and you will be greeted at the door and taken directly to the treatment room. If you arrive early, please wait outside maintaining at least 2 metre distance from others.

  • Cancellation policy: If you present with any COVID-19 symptoms and must cancel your appointment within 24 hours, you will not be charged for the treatment. This is a temporary measure to help ensure all patients are comfortable staying home without monetary burden.
